I am a native Italian soprano, who moved to the US in 2014. Since then, I have been teaching voice and Italian diction to students all over the Country. Combining my vocal and musical expertise with a profound knowledge of Italian language, Italian diction, and phonetics, I have been researching and developing techniques to specifically support non-native singers in achieving clarity and vocal comfort while singing in Italian.
In these videos, I combine the IPA transcription of some Italian art songs and arias, with recordings of native Italian singers. The goal is to help familiarize with the characteristics and nuances of the Italian language.
The IPA transcription includes assimilation of "n" and phrasal doubling (rafforzamento sintattico), which is the lengthening of many word-initial consonants when preceded by specific words.
All the IPA transcriptions reflect how the singer should sing the lyrics based on the score.Music
