The Protector Ethic
"The Protector Ethic: Morality, Virtue, and Ethics in the Martial Way" is the new book published by YMAA Publications Center, detailing a unique East meets West ethical theory that examines the ancient cardinal virtues through the lens of Eastern martial tradition. The author, James V. Morganelli, is a student and teacher of martial arts for forty years, has a master’s degree in ethics from Loyola University Chicago, and holds a master instructor license in the Japanese martial tradition, Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. Morganelli's contention is that personal ethics are more actionable when habituated through the physicality of martial training. He believes we must unlock the universal moral values intrinsic to our humanity, like the “protector ethic,” to stand up and defend ourselves and others who might not or cannot defend themselves. The Protector Ethic Institute was founded and is dedicated to outreach for these ideals.
