Liya
Continuing in an unbroken lineage of Nigerian soul singers and refined griots, Liya’s music is an extension of her love for culture and how it revolves around her as she moves between R&B, pop, and soul music. Born and raised in Lagos, Liya, birth name Suliyat Modasola Abdusalami, had always been drawn to music from as early as age nine despite prompts to turn her attention to other affairs.
Inspired by acts like Amy Winehouse, Angelique Kidjo and Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Liya’s professional career kicked off when she moved to Ilorin in 2014 to start a degree programme, taking part in music discovery schemes like Ilorin Idols amongst others. The earliest years of her career were spent experimenting with sounds and discovering herself musically.
