Chan Mey
Lomphat is a 5-month-old female elephant who was rescued in December 2024 from the Lomphat Wildlife Sanctuary in Ratanakiri province, Cambodia. She was found with a severe snare injury on her right front leg, which had become infected. After initial treatment by the Ministry of Environment and Wildlife Alliance teams, Lomphat was transported to the Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center in Takeo province for specialized care.
Since her arrival at Phnom Tamao, Lomphat has been receiving daily wound care and has shown signs of recovery. Her playful and friendly demeanor has made her a star attraction at the rescue center, drawing numerous visitors and bringing joy to the staff.
Lomphat's story highlights the dangers of illegal snaring in Cambodia's forests and underscores the importance of ongoing conservation efforts to protect wildlife.
