Confidence in Hereditary Cancer Discussion for Primary Care Providers
This series delves into the barriers faced by family physicians in conducting hereditary breast cancer (HBC) screening, referral, and patient communication. Each 15-minute module explores a vital aspect of identifying and managing HBC. Of particular interest is the use of narrative medicine, a powerful tool for engaging patients in discussions about HBC risk. Other topics include setting up the primary care office for HBC screening and referral, working with genetic counselors, and addressing patients’ concerns about insurance, disclosure, and communicating with family.
