The Caretaker
The Caretaker is the project of Leyland James Kirby, whose music explores memory, nostalgia, dementia, and psychological decline through manipulated ballroom and jazz recordings. Best known for An Empty Bliss Beyond This World and Everywhere at the End of Time, the project has become a defining influence on internet culture surrounding liminal spaces and analog horror. Its haunting, degraded soundscapes have become synonymous with forgotten places, lost time, and the erosion of memory, establishing The Caretaker as one of the most influential projects in experimental ambient and hauntological music. Most of his album covers were painted by his friend, Ivan Seal.
