The National Catholic Reporter (NCR) connects Catholics to church, faith and the common good with independent news, analysis and spiritual reflection. Established in 1964 as an outflow of the Second Vatican Council, NCR is governed by a lay-led board of directors, preserving its independent status.
Since its beginning, NCR has reported extensively on women religious and their ministries, culminating in the launch of Global Sisters Report (GSR) in 2014. Today, GSR is a worldwide network reporting on the often hidden ministries of the sisters and providing a vehicle for sisters to tell their own stories.
NCR was among the first Catholic news sources to report on the environment. With impetus from Pope Francis' 2015 encyclical Laudato Si': On Care for Our Common Home, NCR's leadership founded EarthBeat in 2019 to inspire lay people to engage in thoughtful climate action in their communities.사회 / 문화
